What Caused the American Revolution?

by Robert Melaccio, Sr.(123) Red Star

Now an interesting question. You may get any number of answers and they would for the most part mind you be correct. It was a series of events over time. Some were most notably unjust taxes, exploitive laws, greed, but the real kicker, the bottom line that was the one that broke the camels back was in my opinion a lack of representation. The people were simply ignored.

Now one can go down the parallels of then and now and see much in common. Do you think our forefathers wrote into what is in the opinion of many the greatest document the world ever came up with the provisions they did because they felt secure in leaders? No the right to bear arms was there so that if and I say if we ever got to a point that our representatives did not, or do not, and get this, deeds enacted for the general welfare and the common good of ordinary citizens then that government would have a hard time suppressing an armed population should it rise up to cast those leaders out. Hello, do you need a fact. Ok I'll give you two, Iraq and Afghanistan and I'll even through in Somalia as I could any number of other places. It is not so easy to suppress an armed population even with the greatest military in the world.

Now the answer throughout history, and I have written to this a number of times, was the disarmament of the population and the hiring or mercenary armies and foreign citizens. Some people laugh at this but sadly these are the ones who just do not know. They do not know that foreign aircraft have already flown in the past over our nation at the request of our government. They do not know that many fighting in our armed forces are not even citizens. One might say nothing wrong with that yet could one image a US citizen being forcibly removed at the hands of our very own military.  Did it not happen in the 1930's in Washington? The facts, yes.

So now in my opinion of course, we are being prepared by indoctrination by those outlets of free speech, the press, to accept gun control. Certainly our new president is against this. Only time will show the results of our leaders.  Like the magician not where they focus you but what they do you can't see.

Now facts, Mexico is now engaged in a drug war. That war as reported in our media is now overflowing into the United States. We hear it consistently as if this is new and just started.  It has by fact been going on for quite sometime now.  Us bad guys are supplying weapons to those bad drug guys at our border and in Mexico. The police in Mexico are out gunned. So what is the cry, close down weapons in the US.

Ok, are you a thinking person? If not, can you comprehend? If that is in question, well stop reading now. No and I'll say that again no gun control will ever keep guns and weapons out of the hands of the bad, no, nada, nothing, none. Yes only out of the hands of good citizens.

That said, you have a greater chance of getting killed in a car, walking or riding on public transportation then at the hands of someone with a gun, fact and that is regardless of what the press blows up. The fact that gun crime is usually more intense  it will get the press. Yes while all about you people die in cars or from other sources on a regular basis in higher numbers.

Now lets drift back to Mexico. This is we hope a sovereign nation? One wonders these days just who they belong to? Are they like Puerto Rico to America? Have we annexed them? Did we give back Texas and California? Yes one wonders don't we?

Do they not have police, a military, resources of their own to, get this novel idea, close their borders? Now they get billions of our money to support their war against drugs. They get training and equipment in untold numbers and they still can't cut the mustard? You mean to say some gangsters can outfit their gang members with better equipment then the Mexican and US governments or is it no one really cares to? Rhetorically, might there be greed and corruption in the picture on both sides of the border? Look there evidently is  a market otherwise it wouldn't be? Enough money for that here even in a depressed economy which is evidently fact. Rhetorically, even in hard financial times always money for a joint or a rock.

So now we hear the cries again that we need to tighten gun control. Yes and the sheep followed after them from pasture to pasture nodding approval. Yes it is about time the battle cry. Now how many people own an AR15 or 50 caliper weapon who are good decent Americans? Sure some do and for their own reasons but do you know what percentage? Keep in mind they are not out there gun running or causing havoc. They re not out there in mass numbers. They may belong to a militia or some other organization but they are not running drugs or breaking the law. In fact I may want to have one on hand myself because I do not see good times ahead for ordinary people and as they, yes they, the powers that be say crime is on the increase and surely the need for protection will grow.

Now those old west shootouts were not as frequent as professed in the movies and people went around armed because there just wasn't enough police to secure peace and tranquility. Do you think we have that now, really? What they don't say is that crimes are for the greater part not committed by people who have registered their weapons with the government. There may be a few but a very few at best, It make no sense to go out and do that when the police and government can track you down. If you commit a crime you use a stolen or unregistered weapon, fact. The stolen weapon can be traced and is not the weapon of choice for the professional thief or criminal.

So what are we left with is reality? We want to remove guns from the hands of citizens all the while knowing by fact and truth this is not the problem. Criminals can and will always be able to arm themselves, so there has to be another motive?

Now I do not own a gun. Yet many are arming out of fear. Many will rush to buy because like me they sense what is being said is not what Americans will get. The argument for gun control a good citizen has no need for a gun. My argument a good government has no need to fear a good citizen. Yes and more murders are by knife, hammer and other means then a gun. Accidents sure, that will always be. Carelessness yes, but once again the very few cases just high publicity and for a reason.

It is surely the time we looked at our freedoms under our constitution which provided for home and land ownership, property and the right to bear arms. Two precious rights not found in many  other places on this planet and which we are in my opinion perilously close to losing.

Very good article. Thank you for taking the time to write it. The good news is even stupid and drunk people feel it when a car drives over their foot. That is my blunt way of saying that, economically, even stupid and drunk people (people who believe what they are told by politicians instead of looking at what is really going on for themselves) wake up and look at what is really going on when things get painful enough, because of government spending and policies. Sooner or later, things will get painful enough to wake up even the stupid and drunk. Obviously, things are not painful enough yet to do that most people still believe the politicians. I know this because our people are not stopping our congress from doing dumb and destructive things.

How many times can a politician say: "Here, rub this on it and it will heal it." When it doesn't heal, it is an intelligent thing to do to believe the politician next time?

Great article - Best Regards

Thanks for commenting and how true but said what you say. Just what does it take for people to wake up a real question these days. Evidently they have and are comfortable and secure. Why, who knows, a question for history, if we have any? Yet if you watch closely you will see the protests starting here and there by people who are joining together. Hopefully this will pick up some steam. Best wishes.
