How to Raise a Criminal

by John Waddey(43)
firstcenturychristian

To understand why and how certain things come to be, investigators seek to find the ingredients or factors that contributed to the end result. In American society we have an epidemic of juvenile crime. We commonly read of juveniles committing heinous crimes of violence and mayhem. Observation reveals the following ingredients:

* Selfish parents who are so wrapped up in themselves they have no time for nor interest in rearing their children to responsible adulthood.

* Many juveniles criminals were born out of wedlock and have grown up without a stable family or a father to guide and control them.

* Social engineers have created and imposed rules that discourage and even forbid parental and school discipline for unruly children.

* Hundreds of thousands of kids come home from school to an empty house. Without the presence and guidance of a mother at home, kids are left to their own devices. Most youngsters are not mature enough to avoid the allurements of trouble.

* The corrupting influence of degenerate television, movies and music marketed to youth helps to undermine and destroy any moral values they may have learned along the way.

* An advertising industry that effectively creates a raging appetite for material things in young minds. Those without the means to purchase them are tempted to secure them by alternative means, including theft.

* Easy access to alcohol and illicit drugs is a major factor. These substances can quickly addict teens, leading them not only to irresponsible behavior but to criminal activity to feed their habit.

* An educational system that fails its students in the following ways:

1). By not imparting a meaningful, realistic education that will prepare young people to earn to decent living.

2). An educational environment devoid of character building training and experience.

3). An amoral social environment of low expectations.

4). Students subjected to a subtle philosophy of selfishness and irresponsibility.

5). Lack of discipline.

* Most young criminals have received little or no spiritual training. Many parents totally neglect the spiritual training of their kids. Secularist have succeeded in keeping any and all redeeming influences out of school life.

* A permissive juvenile justice system that allows youthful criminals to escape meaningful consequences for their early crimes. It is not uncommon to hear of juveniles who have records of numerous offenses before they are seriously punished. This emboldens them to pursue a life of crime, thinking they can beat the system. Eventually they are deeply involved in serious crime.

* A band of do-gooders who rush to plead the case of every captured and convicted young criminal to help them avoid the punishment they deserve.

It would be comic, if not so tragic, observing the people who have created the situation that has resulted in our epidemic of juvenile crime trying to figure out what caused the problem. Modern society scoffs at and scorns the biblical concept of child-rearing while pursuing their own course with disastrous results.
