I have a neighbor who loves humming birds and dislikes pigeons. Well, he dislikes having pigeons fouling his yard and roosting on his house and leaving behind their messy residue. Those pigeons which inhabit the railroad bridge he really doesn’t mind. I know a lady who loves rabbits but can’t stand rats and mice. She is not really prejudiced. It’s the difference in their conduct. The rabbits are content to stay outside and eat grass, while the rats and mice invade her home, set up housekeeping, raise their litters and steal her food. They even eat the insulation off the electrical wires in her attic, creating a fire hazard. They are filthy and carry disease. She just doesn’t want them in her house. I personally love flowers but I disdain weeds. I invite flowers to live in my yard. If they multiply I am blessed. I volunteer to feed and water them. Weeds however, come without asking. They impose them selves on me. Left alone, they take over a yard and destroy what was once lovely and turn it into a weed patch and an eyesore.
Some people are like humming birds, rabbits and flowers. Those who are, make nice neighbors and everyone is glad to have them around. There are a few however, who are more like the pigeons, rats and weeds. No one is glad to have them for neighbors. That they are not wanted or welcomed is not a matter of prejudice, it is the fact that they tend to spoil and devalue the community in which they live. They have no respect for themselves or for others. It is not a matter of race, for there are both kinds in every ethnic group. Americans used to understand such rudimentary social matters. Today, with minds confused and vision blurred by the teachings of political correctness, lots of folks cannot seem to make this distinction.
