Reincarnation: Realistic or Unrealistic?

by Joel Hendon(179) Red Star

Let us make a point, imprimis. We believe all men should be completely free to believe and teach whatever meets his fancy...unless...it harms, kills or restricts others rights. Our only intent is to defend our own beliefs and to show where it is most profitable for individuals to know and follow truths.

Reincarnation means: (1) Rebirth of the soul in another body. (2) A reappearance or revitalization in another form; a new embodiment:

These definitions do not list a belief in another life of the same soul as a spirit. And it is rightfully omitted. The word carnate means invested with, or embodied in, flesh (flesh=carne).

Hindu and Buddhists teach some form of reincarnation. It offers those living in poverty and pain the hope of living again in better circumstances if they only lead good moral lives. But what is that as a reward? To live again, never knowing that he lived before and under what circumstances he lived previously. There is no evidence to accept such a belief, yet there is no way to prove conclusively that it is wrong. But let's look at the comparison between such a belief compared to Biblical doctrine which tells of the same soul (mind) of man will continue to live but not in flesh and blood bodies.

Let us consider that, under the theory of Buddha, we live a raucous life, fulfilling our own lusts and committing much wrongs, even murder and stealing, etc. We die and in another life we suffer greatly, not realizing that it was our previous life which caused it, not remembering any of it. When in all actuality it is a different being. Where is justice here?

Then we consider the Biblical view that we will realize that it was our own doing which places us in torment or if we have lived in keeping with those teachings of Jesus Christ, our reward will be great and we will know it. We will be aware of our life in the flesh.

Consider this, according to Hindu and Buddhists doctrine, if I should live a good moral, ethical life of doing good to others, then I will be reincarnated into a life of pleasantries, possibly suffering some pains and misfortune, but overall an improvement over what I had. There is no indication that I must be a Buddhist or Hindu in order to have achieve this new life.

But let us consider also the Christian view, that unless one believes in, and obeys the Lord Jesus Christ, he will be lost. Then to have accepted and followed Buddha, yet lived the same type of moral life, the disbeliever will still be lost. To believe that Jesus Christ was God, incarnate, is essential

Joel,

I loved this! What great material for a dinner discussion, seriously! I never thought of iit n this light; i.e., if one does not remember having been, of what value is reincarnation?

This article is a real thinker!

Many thanks,

Nancy

Thank you Nancy, for reading and commenting. Yes, I just cannot personally see any existing evidence, or reason for the theory of reincarnation.
