Biblical Rules For True Christianity

by Joel Hendon(756) Blue Star

Following you will find biblical verses telling those who would follow Jesus Christ, what they must do. The list is extensive and yet, not exhaustive. It is my belief that one must strive to add all of these to his/her life to be pleasing to God. I do not accept the premise that one may pick and choose those things to accept or decline in the Bible at his pleasure. In other words, if something is directed to New Testament Christians, I believe that one must strive to follow it.

  • Study: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15) Many of the other rules depend upon this first one.
  • Believe (Faith): "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." (Hebrews 11:6) Notice that it is impossible to please Him.
  • Virtue: (Moral excellence and righteousness; goodness. An example or kind of moral excellence:) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; (2nd Peter 1:5)
  • Knowledge: (Requires much more study) ...and to virtue knowledge; (2nd Peter 1:5)
  • Temperance: (Moderation and self-restraint, as in behavior or expression. Restraint in the use of or abstinence from alcoholic liquors.) And to knowledge temperance; (2nd Peter 1:6)
  • Patience: (Long-suffering, resignation, forbearance) and to temperance patience; (2nd Peter 1:6)
  •  Godliness: (Careful observance of, or conformity to, the laws of God; the state or quality of being godly; piety.) and to patience godliness; (2nd Peter 1:6)
  • Brotherly kindness: (Compassion, generosity, not cruel or mean) "And to godliness brotherly kindness;" (2nd Peter 1:7)
  •  Charity: (Love, Benevolence or generosity toward others or toward humanity.) and to brotherly kindness charity. (2nd Peter 1:7)
  • Submission: (The act of submitting to the power of another:) Jesus Example
  • Obedience: (The quality or state of willingly carrying out the wishes of others: acquiescence, amenability, amenableness, compliance, compliancy, deference) "If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15)

"And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt." (Mark 14:36)

"I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me."

(Proverbs 8:17 NKJV)

There are 70 references in the Holy Bible which, in one way or another, requests obedience to the triune Godhead. Regardless of what I say, or you say, or your trusted preacher says, obedience is not to be taken lightly. There are numerous examples in the scriptures which prove, by the reaction of God, that He expects to be obeyed as near to the letter as is humanly possible.

And again, my favorite saying is, "How can anyone expect to obey God if they do not know what He says?"

Hi Joel, Amen and Amen. It is so sad to see so many Christians who use the "I have freedom in Christ" saying to justify sinful behavior. As we know, Paul said we are not to use our liberty to sin.

Great references from Peter. Obedience is the true test of saving faith. Lord Bless you! Teresa

I am not Christian, but I believe that if you are telling me "This is truly the word of God", why are you not following all of the rules? Pierced faces, two types of material in their clothing.. It's all in there, and if you take the religion so seriously, how can you NOT follow it to a T?

I believe what you have said. Thank you.

Thank you for reading and commenting friend. What you have said is confused. These things you refer to are found under the Old Testament Law of the Jews, not under the law of Christ, of whom we ae now to follow.(Christian) means follower Christ, or Christ-like. I have an article concerning the two laws either her on Webgazine or Searchwarp. I'll look it up and refer you to it.
