The Beautiful Maya People
by Joel Hendon(754)
Mexico, like the United States, is populated with people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Before the Spanish conquest of that area, it was populated by the Maya Indians who inhabited all of Mexico, most of Guatemala and the northern portion of Belize. They had, perhaps, the most advanced civilization in this hemisphere.
Through the years, some of the people married Spaniards as well as other nationalities, some integrated into the more modern areas and cities, although many have maintained much of their earlier ancestors lifestyles and even the original language in some areas. It is estimated there were some seven million of the pure Maya ethnicity at the beginning of this present century (21st). Most of these live in the Yucatan area of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
Historical records and evidence for the Mayas goes back to approximately 250 A.D. They advanced to the point of having 40 cities with approximately 5,000 to 50,000 population each and the total population is said to have reached some two million by about 900 A.D.
The ancient Maya, as many of the Greek, Asian, and other eastern pagans, had many gods and goddesses. Strangely these people had a god for almost every thing as did those of the eastern pagans, although different names and origins. Following are a few of them:
Ah Cancum- The Mayan god of hunting.
Buluc Chabtan-The Mayan god of war to whom humans were sacrificed. He is the so-called 'God F'.
Camulatz-The Mayan bird who tore off the heads of the first men who Hurakan destroyed in a flood.
Gucumatz-The Quiché Maya serpent god. He brought mankind civilization and taught them the art of agriculture.
For those who may have an interest in more information concerning these beautiful people may find considerably more information concerning them at the following links.

This article is not really accurate, for the Mayan people lived all over Belize. Not just in the North, they built temples in the South and West of Belize. So i would say that this article needs to be revised and have a better research.Respond to this comment

Thank you for reading and commenting. I did research it quite well and this information is what I found. So far, I accept it over someone who doesn't even leave his name. The facts which I read was speaking of a particular time. I don't deny that they may have moved into the rest of Belize.
