Questions For My Secular Neighbors

by John Waddey(40)

Most intelligent people would like to see America survive and prosper, not just for themselves but for the sake of their posterity. The recent election revealed the fact that a significant number of Americans think that secularism, a nation without the dynamic influence of Christianity, is the way of the future. To all who are inclined to think this way, I pose a few simple questions.

Would it be better for America:

* If those who wish to share the marriage bed would first get married?

* If couples would be legally married before they bring children into the world?

* If divorce is made the last option when a husband and wife have conflicts and problems rather than the first?

* If every person is taught and reminded that violence has no place in a marriage; that under all circumstances it is wrong?

* If every child could grow up in a home with both a father and a mother?

* If each child born had parents who loved him/her enough to provide them guidance and supervision and lead them to a successful, productive adulthood?

* If enough children are born not only to replace and maintain our present numbers but to provide a steady, moderate growth to our population?

* If people are taught from childhood to respect human life and that innocent life should be defended?

* If each able bodied person worked at honest employment and thus cared for himself and those dependent upon him?

* If all children were taught the virtues of honesty, truthfulness, loyalty, industry and self-reliance?

* If there are people in our midst to help those have gotten on the wrong track in life; those whose moral fibre needs to be restored and whose lives needs renovation and restoration?

* If there is someone who will extend a helping hand to the poor, and unfortunate?

* If there is someone to provide care for orphaned or abandoned children, unwed mothers, and the elderly who have no family to care for them?

* If there is someone who would provide summer camps for children, and marriage enrichment and parenting seminars and volunteers to work with those who need care?

* If there are people to remind those who have wronged or harmed their neighbors that such is not right and should not happen again?

* If there should be a movement that encourages people to be good citizens, to support the nation with their taxes and even their lives in case of a national emergency?

* If all citizens were taught and encouraged to respect the police and cooperate with them in maintaining a quiet and secure community?

* If there were people in our midst who would encourage folks to pay their debts, to tell the truth, to obey the laws, to respect their neighbors?

* If there were someone to encourage people, if at all possible, to live at peace with their neighbors?

* If there were someone in our society who would help neighbors resolve their conflicts without having to resort to violence or the courts?

* If there were someone who would respond with assistance when disasters such as floods, storms, fires, etc strike our communities?

* If there were citizens who would exercise their ballot wisely and support only politicians who are honest and who work for the welfare of the nation, rather than for special interests.

* If there were citizens who would never cheat in business nor be involved with those who are dishonest?

* If there were people who were tolerant in their dealings with those whose politics or religion are different from theirs?

If you agree that the things cited above are beneficial and needed for a healthy society, I remind you that these are the very things provided by Christ’s church in every community where it is found. Rather than hate the church and work to muzzle her or push her out of the mainstream of our society, a wise man would appreciate the work done by the church and encourage her for the good she will do for his community. Even if he chooses not to believe or be a part of the church, he will benefit from the good she does! As Jesus said, his disciples are the salt of the earth (Matt. 5:13).
