On the Sixth Day God Made a Mouth

by John Waddey(43)
firstcenturychristian

Yes, I know God made a man, but when He did he gave him an organ that we call a mouth. In many ways our mouth defines who we are and what kind of person we are.

* There are the basic biological uses of the mouth. Through our mouth we breath, eat our necessary food and drink life sustaining liquids.

* With our mouth we express our fears, our joys and our needs.

* With our mouth we communicate to each other. In this action is included everything from silly jokes to profound facts and information.

* With our mouth we tell a certain person that we love then and want to share our lives with them. We ask them to marry us, or agree to their proposal.

* With our mouths we bestow kisses of affection on our parents, our mates and children.

* With their mouths millions make a living. Singers, teachers, comedians, preachers do so.

* With their mouths those who play wind instruments pursue their skill.

* With their mouths foremen, supervisors and leaders guide their teams to success.

* With our mouths we confessed our faith in Jesus and requested baptism (Rom. 10:9-10; Acts 2:37).

* With our mouths we confess our sins and ask forgiveness (I John 1:9).

* With our mouths we sing praises to God and speak words of exhortation to each other (Eph. 5:19).

* With our mouths we lift up our prayers to Jehovah.

* With our mouths we speak to the lost, teach them about Christ and encourage them to obey him (Mark 16:15).

* With out mouths we teach our children to know and love the Lord (Eph. 6:2).

* With our mouths we warn stubborn sinners of the wrath to come (Acts 2:40).

* With our mouths we speak words of counsel and encouragement to those struggling with sin or bearing heavy burdens (Gal. 6:1-2).

* With our mouths we comfort and console the bereaved.

As with all the good things God has given us, sinners find a way to abuse or misuse them.

* With their mouths some curse their Creator and blaspheme his name.

* With their mouths some speak vile, offensive and shameful words (Eph. 5:4).

* With their mouths others lie and deceive others (Eph. 4:25).

* Some with their mouths slander their neighbors and spread vicious gossip about them (Ps. 101:5).

* Some fill their mouths with mind-numbing drugs or beverages.

* Some use their mouths to deny God, to slander his Son and attack his Word, his church and his people.

* Some uses their mouths to lead people away from the true faith and worship of Christ and his church Gal. 1:8).

* Some use their mouths to inflict cruel verbal wounds on others. They hurl hateful criticisms, painful ridicule or humiliating names at their victims.

When sinners of the world engage in this latter category, we understand, that is what sinners do. But when we hear Christians misusing their mouths in this way, we are reminded of James’ affirmation, " Out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. " May our daily prayer be " Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in hy sight, O Jehovah... " (Ps. 19:14).
