"Houston, We Have A Problem"

It’s hard to believe that it was 39 years ago today when the astronauts on Apollo 13 reported a problem to the control center at Houston. An explosion that occurred nearly 200,000 miles from Earth jeopardized the lives of three astronauts. From the moment this problem was reported, priorities for the men at Houston as well as the astronauts was radically different. Instead of a Moon landing, all efforts were focused on just being able to bring these men home alive.

I wonder sometimes if we shouldn’t feel a greater sense of urgency with some matters in our personal lives. Could our children be in trouble? Could our marriages be in trouble? Could my relationship with God be in trouble? If so, shouldn’t we acknowledge “we have a problem?” Furthermore, shouldn’t we not only acknowledge our problem, but work frantically to fix it?

When you’re 200,000 miles from Earth and you have a problem, it’s not “business as usual.” And sometimes it shouldn’t be “business as usual” when you’re sitting in the comfort of your own home. Friends, some problems demand we drop everything and spend all our energy on getting them fixed.
