On the Murder of Dr. George Tiller, Abortionist

Doctor George Tiller earned his place in history as one of three American doctors who specialized in late term abortions. We speak of abortions done from the sixth to ninth month of gestation. Most of these are healthy babies who would routinely survive premature births. They are fully formed, needing only to gain weight and strength before birth. Late term abortions are especially gruesome. They are so barbaric in nature that pro-abortionists oppose every public effort to depict the procedure in words or pictures.
On Sunday May 30, 2009, while he was ushering at the Reformation Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas, Dr. Tiller was shot dead by an assassin. The news coverage of this murder is interesting.
* Dr. Tiller is presented as a noble martyr to a righteous cause. No mention is make of the sixty thousand innocent babies he killed by abortion in his clinic.
* Before an arrest was made, spokespersons for the abortion industry and the media sought to implicate all who oppose abortion as somehow responsible for the doctor’s death.
* No mention is made of the exceedingly cruel method of late term abortions that Dr. Tiller specialized in doing.
* Not a word of sympathy has ever been expressed by the media or the abortion providers and defenders for the 45 million babies that have been legally aborted since 1973.
* It is paradoxical that a person who earned his living by killing late term, unwanted babies would be comfortable in worshiping the Creator of Life on Sunday. The God whom Lutherans worship says, "Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the image of God made he man" (Gen. 9:6).
* It is also mystifying that a church that claims to represent Christ, the friend of children, would embrace a renowned abortionist in their membership. Granted, abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy is legal, but it is still a deadly abuse of children. It is worse than child pornography and child-prostitution and beating of children for its victims are killed in a barbaric, albeit legal way.
* Those who reverence life should extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Tiller. The sudden loss of a loved one, by they young or old is a painful, shocking experience to the survivors. They should be in our prayers.
* The assassin’s daring act did not advance the Pro-Life cause nor, in the greater scheme of things, did it help to save the lives of babies. His violent act exposed all Pro-Lifers to hateful criticism and gained public sympathy for those who champion the act of abortion. It will make it yet harder for us to overcome the powerful pro-abortion movement. The assassin deserves no sympathy from those who uphold the sanctity of human life.
* It was a criminal act for the assassin to murder Dr. Tiller. Just as it would be wrong for an assassin to take the law into his own hands to kill a professional hit man, it was wrong for this man to execute Dr. Tiller. The shooter should be charged with first degree murder. True, under our current governance and judicial thinking Dr. Tiller would never have been convicted of a crime against the children he aborted. But all such cases must be left to the hands omniscient and righteous Judge and Creator of humanity. Great evils that escape judgments in this life, He will take care of on the Day of Judgment (Rev. 21:8).
