Let me first say that most of my philosophy and political viewpoints are diametrically opposed to those of Barack Obama. About the only things I can think of about the family that I like is them personally. I like the attitude and demeanor of Michelle as well as Barack. I don't know the girls well enouugh to comment about them but being raised by the parents they are, I would imagine they are super nice girls.
I've been reading and hearing about some of the elite Washingtonians who criticize Michelle for her gardening and her manure for it. I say good for her. She is doing a good deed for those children. I realize that they are mainly from very wealthy families but it will do them good nevertheless to experience the growing of vegetables and hopefully they'll get a chance to eat some fresh-from-the-garden produce. Your finest Filet Mignon is not so delicious.
And one of their criticisms has been the manure she put in the ground. The thought of eating something grown in ground with manure in it!! That shows the height of ignorance. The nutrients taken up in the plants are chemicals exactly as any others and nothing filthy about them. After manure is composted, it is as clean as any soil. And there is no commercial fertilizer which can compare to the value of balanced nutrients as that of manure. I have just finished eating lunch where my wife had fried yellow crookneck squash, she raised in a flower bed! With manure mixed into the soil. I ate too much!
And just as a side note to help satisfy my own disagreement with Michelle's husband, if Barack continues pushing higher taxes, bigger spending government programs and socializing the control of business, those elitists' children may have to raise their own food. This government is going to fail and Rush Limbaugh is going to get a chance to say he told you so.
Now, for the most ridiculous of criticisms. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has ridiculed the president for smashing a housefly that was bugging him. Anyone who is that asinine, should not be in a position to even voice a complaint. I am a genuine animal lover and believe in ethical and humane treatment for them. But houseflies do not qualify for my sympathy. I commend the president for his agility and for not tolerating the nuisance.
I was raised where those pests swarmed like gnats or mosquitoes. I doubt a fifty gallon drum would hold all the ones I have slapped to the ground, smashed, bashed and rid myself of them any way I could without causing personal injury.
Now, one final item, excuse me Michelle if this causes your critics to get worse, but do you know where those pesky houseflies lay their eggs and hatch? Well, you guessed it, in manure! The first thing I thought of when I saw the fly incident on TV was, "How in the world, did a common housefly get into the White House?" I have not heard of any stables or domestic farm-type animals in that area. But my wife mentioned to me, that Michelle had manure hauled onto the White House grounds.
I have an article strictly on houseflies entitled "The Common Housefly, A Cussed Little Critter" I wrote back in February 2008. You may access it at: http://searchwarp.com/swa295287.htm
