The present administration came in with a flurry bringing in the largest majority of Democratic congressmen in decades. They took the reins as a recession was taking over the economy. This was blamed on the the Bush administration, even though congress had been under the Democrats majority for the past two years and the real trouble had been festering since the Clinton years. Those such as Barney Frank and Chris Dodd had a leading position to watch over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and who pressured the banking industry to extend mortgages to over-valued property and unqualified buyers.
Obama and a majority of his strong supporters had backgrounds of advocating socialism yet this was ignored by the majority of the voters. As a candidate, Obama assured everyone he would bring bipartisanship to the congress, that he could discuss compromise “across the aisle”. But instead, when he was elected, using his own words, “he hit the ground running” introduced massive spending bills to try and correct the failing economy, and shoved them through, mostly without allowing floor discussions in congress. None of these bills have benefited the economy. After seven full months of massive expenditures, the economy is worsening daily with 676 thousand people now on the unemployment rolls. This is not counting those who have already exhausted their benefits or are otherwise unqualified to draw compensation.
Each of those bills were controversial and voter opinion was opposed to some and hesitant to endorse others. But now arises one of Obama’s prime promises to accomplish healthcare reform. The extremely radical socialist bill written by who knows who (no one of authority has even read it all, especially the proponents). This bill, as were the others rammed through congress, is so laden with ambiguous and half-finished details that few if anyone actually knows what is allowed and what is not. Almost every phase of it (I have read it) leaves room for various interpretations and will eventually wind up in courts facing activist liberal judges.
But all is not well on the home front. The American voters are heavily against it, even many Democratic congressmen are against it. However, those who carry the big stick insist that it be made into law. You can rest assured the big financial backers of the campaign are for it and are applying all the pressure they can muster. Also, Fancy Nancy and her counterpart, Harry Reid, are perfecting their arm-twisting techniques for their Blue Dog moderate underlings in an effort to again ram this bill through regardless of the lack of bipartisanship and even with the lack of voter approval.
Since the brainwashing propaganda has failed to turn the tide back to accepting the bill, they are now threatening the congressional “nuclear option” process to put it through regardless. I hope that common sense (as little as has been shown so far), will prevail. If this socialist regime can only visualize nothing but having their way regardless, it will no doubt be political suicide on the part of the president and those congressmen who force it through. At least I believe, and hope, it will. A majority of votes in an election does not give any president a blank check to destroy our country, nor the permission of those voters to enact laws of which they do not approve.
I watched Barney Frank as he stuttered and blubbered in contradiction to some of his constituents. The president himself, in an effort to sell this bill of junk to the public, has made misleading and sometimes, outright false statements. He says this bill will save money for the taxpayer as well as the insured. It absolutely will do no such thing, and he knows it. He said the AARP had endorsed the bill, which was then contradicted by the officials of AARP. AARP is an ultra liberal organization who heartily endorsed Obama for president, but now they realize their welfare is at stake when numerous members have left them and many, many more have expressed their disdain at this bill.
It will be interesting to watch how this plays out during the next 30 days. If there is any common sense displayed, this entire bill will be shredded and recycled and an entirely new bill addressing only the weaknesses in our present system be presented. Nobody questions the fact there are a few points in our present system which need to be corrected. But overall, the vast majority of Americans are happy with their present insurance set up.
Canada has a system similar to what is being called for by this administration. The Canadian Medical Association gathered for their annual meeting on this past Sunday and they express warnings for the American people to be very cautious as to what is in the bill and not to believe that a government takeover will get costs under control. Here is a quote concerning their own system, that people would do well to pay attention.
"We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize. We know that there must be change," said Dr. Anne Doig, the Canadian Medical Association's incoming president, in an interview with the Canadian Press. "[Canadians] have to understand that the system that we have right now -- if it keeps on going without change -- is not sustainable." (Editorial: Learning From Canada’s Mistakes--Washington Times, Thursday August 20, 2009)
If the present bill is pushed through and becomes law, then when it becomes unsustainable as Canada’s now has, what will be the result? Many, if not all, of our present great insurance companies will have become defunct. They cannot compete with a tax supported public option, nor can they survived under the mandated prices placed on various procedures. A health care crisis will occur. More and more Canadians are coming over to the U.S. for treatments.
