I read a very interesting editorial this morning which inspired me to write this article. The mindset of the liberal left is, almost totally, that of a superior feeling over all others. And along with that feeling is extreme hatred of those who take issue with them. They consider themselves to be “intellectuals” and those who differ with them as ignorant peons. They cannot accept the fact that they live in a nation whose populace is over half “ignoramuses” and it rends their hearts to have to try and appeal to some of those for their votes.
It wasn’t always this way, but it began to fester from the time Dwight Eisenhower soundly trounced their candidate, Adlai Stevenson in a landslide victory in 1952. The Democratic hierarchy never could stand to be humbled. He was extremely popular with the people and won re-election in 1956 with 457 of the 531 electoral college votes.
Their record since then has not been satisfactory to them. They ran John F. Kennedy whose money and charisma won a close election over former vice president Richard Nixon. But, due to Kennedy’s untimely murder, he and Lyndon Johnson (who took over at his death) were only able to hold the office for two terms combined.
When Lyndon Johnson refused to run for a second term, and when Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated, Nixon again ran and was opposed by the Democrat Hubert Humphrey. Nixon won by almost half a million votes. Much occurred during his first term and due to much disarray in the Democratic party, he won re-election over his opponent George McGovern by the largest landslide majority in history at that point. He carried 49 of the 50 states, losing only in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
However, having been caught up in a scandal, he resigned the presidency in August 1974 at which time Vice President Gerald Ford assumed the presidency to complete the term. He ran for another term but was narrowly beaten by Democrat Jimmy Carter.
Jimmy Carter, although highly respected for his character and morals, lost favor with the voters over what was considered ineptness in handling of the Iranian hostage crisis, the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, scarcity of fuel, the return of the Panama Canal to Panama and several other such factors. His approval rating was well below his disapproval rating. He lost his bid for re-election to Republican Ronald Reagan by 49 to 489 electoral votes
Reagan served well and was an extremely popular president. He won his second term in 1984 by even a higher margin with a record breaking 525 electoral votes. Needless to say, such embarrassing records have caused indignation and hatred among the self acknowledged intellectual elite, they can only resort to slanderous and degrading tirades towards any Republican which can even show up as a possible challenger to their aims and plans. Although they have failed each time to bring forth a well qualified, and morally acceptable, candidate, each loss has rubbed salt into the wound and they now have resorted to defamation of character acts towards anyone with conservative views.
Consider the everlasting bombardment of hateful diatribes, expletives and name calling towards George W. Bush. From the election, they lambasted him as a crook and accused him of having stolen the election. He was called names I had never known of being directed towards a sitting president. Fool, Liar, Idiot and many more unrelenting for eight full years. So much so that, they successfully made him into a boogey man. They even brain washed many of his own followers. They never once considered the intellectual or moral levels of the candidates they chose to run against him. Never mind them, just beat George Bush into oblivion.
Now, through the propoganda campaign maligning Bush and conservatives in general, they ran a president totally unqualified for the job after many from the right wing tried to warn of his socialistic and Marxist leanings, enlisted organizations such as ACORN and the New Black Panthers to use every means possible to intimidate voters and alter the voting lists, accepted millions of dollars from anti-American and subversive organizations, foreign countries, and won the office of president and the majority in congress.
What they did not realize is that most of those who voted for their president did not know the changes he promised were those that would destroy the American way of life and load the populace with unemployment, taxes, disrupted health insurance, trillion dollar deficits annually, double digit inflation and remove their freedom of speech, freedom to worship or even to speak of such in public, take away their rights to bear arms, spend their expanded taxes for abortions which they will have recommended, and much more.
Not only have the American voters turned against the administration, but there is harsh infighting besides. Many of the moderate Democrats recognize that things are being done which are un-American and unpopular with their constituents and have balked on some of the measures, especially in the pending Healthcare bill. Most independents who voted for him are now opposing him. So much so, that President Obama has himself agreed that there must be some concessions made. WHOA! His extreme left, including Fancy Nancy and several others of high office, have hit the ceiling. No concessions. If the public option is removed from the bill, there will be NO bill! The Mouth of the House, the most powerful woman in the world guarantees that!
Their desire to have complete control of the nation, financial establishments, big business, insurance industry, has backed them into a proverbial corner. The entire administration is losing approval of the masses, all are now functioning under less than 50% approval and falling. Congress is near the absolute bottom, including all powerful Nancy, who does rank on the bottom. And the reason they are backed into a corner is simply as follows.
The HR3200 Healthcare Bill has become so unpopular that they are holding a ticking bomb. If concessions are made the left wing hardliners will have turned on the administration and many voters also. But, on the other hand, if they ram through this bill using their “Nuclear option” in the Senate with the public option still in it, they will have destroyed their standing with the majority of the voters and will have betrayed their moderate collegues. It appears that, regardless of which way they resolve this mess, they will have lost the confidence of the American people majority.
President Obama has one avenue he could take but he will not. He could ask that the currently pending bill be scrapped completely, then allow several people who are on opposite sides of this fiasco to choose non-fanatical members of each side to sit down and analyze the few problems with our present insurance and then come up with a bill which will not affect our present health care system except for the few major issues. Costs, coverage for the uninsured, and means of paying for these revisions. A few regulations could handle these problems and make everyone happy, except the arrogant elitists who want full control of everything.
Without some very sensible action very soon, the remaining three and one half years will become a genuine nightmare.
