It is almost beyond belief that two people, James O’Keefe a filmmaker and his 20 year old partner who played the part of a prostitute called “Eden”, could visit four ACORN offices and film the workers actually advising them how to evade the law and taxes in their illegitimate occupation. Those of us who Nancy Pelosi called “Astroturf” and others have called everything imaginable that is uncomplimentary, have tried to tell the government and legislators that this organization was rotten and anti-American but the entire group of liberals rejected everything we said. I’m deeply appreciative of those two young people who had the nerve to pull this off.
When the episode at the Baltimore office was aired, the ACORN establishment blasted the filmmaker and his partner as pulling a scam, but nevertheless, they fired the two individuals from the Baltimore office. Then more, from the Washington office, where the film led to the firing of two from there. Then, the visit to the Brooklyn office set off a criminal investigation.
Now, I am sure there will also be strong repercussions from the San Bernardino office. But, it is amazing that the ACORN organization is trying to bring suit against the filming couple, declaring the tapes have been “doctored” and that their lawyers believe a felony has been committed. It would seem to me they would try and shut their mouths and see if they could convince people there are some of them who are honest and not criminal themselves.
It is all becoming embarrassing to the government and the Census Bureau has already broken their deal to use them in the forthcoming census taking. The Senate voted 83-7 to block the grants to ACORN from the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD). The group has already received $53 million in taxpayer dollars since 1994 and was in position to receive much more in stimulus money through the HUD grants.
This organization has been well known as a liberal left organization which has used tax dollars to benefit the Democratic party and their candidates. The massive “get out the vote” movement in the previous presidential election resulted in numerous accusations of fraud.
Although the Senate voted overwhelmingly bi-partisan to stop the grants going to this corrupt organization, it is going to be interesting to see just how thoroughly they will be investigated and what will become of the organization. This is one of the groups the Democratic National Committee was depending upon to help swing the vote to them in 2010 and 2012. It doesn't speak well for the seven Senators who voted to continue funding the group...does it?
Addendum: It develops that the nine Senators not voting to stop the funding, did not vote. Some, possible all, were not in the house at the time They were as follows:
Burr (R-NC)
Byrd (D-WV)
Coburn (R-OK)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Hutchison (R-TX)
McCain (R-AZ)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Vitter (R-LA)
