This is being written before the November 2 election, so whosoever is in charge afterward, take heed. The turmoil of this election, the stupidity of everyone trying to blame another, needs to cease. Something drastic needs to be done to reign in our runaway expenditures. The ones who can sensibly pull such a rabbit out of their hat, will win enduring loyalty from the American people.
Pay attention to some sensible suggestions and then, don't argue about the enemies you will make, just do them and you will make more followers than enemies. Most of these things have been suggested or even attempted, only to fail because of opposition. Do them anyway.
Control Finances: An example of laxity in keeping up with governmental finances is found in numerous locations. One glaring account of such occurs especially in 2003 Financial Report of the United States Government publication:
Page126: Note 16. Unreconciled Transactions Affecting the Change In Net Position
The reconciliation of the Change in Net Position requires that the difference between ending and beginning net position equals the excess of revenues over net cost, plus or minus prior period adjustments.
The unreconciled transactions needed to bring the change in net position into balance amounted to a net value of $24.5 billion and $17.1 billion for the years ended September 30, 2003, and 2002, respectively.
The three primary factors affecting this out-of-balance situation are:
• Improper recording of intragovernmental transactions by agencies.
• Transactions affecting balance sheet assets and liabilities not identified properly by agencies as prior period adjustments.
• Timing differences and errors in reporting transactions.
The Federal financial community considers the identification and accurate reporting of these unrecognized transactions a priority.
The above is unbelievable. Of course, they know the money was there and they know it went somewhere. But they don't know who spent it or what was purchased with it. Those two years 41.6 billion dollars unaccounted for. I wonder how many new millionaires came out of Washington those two years. Mr. Forbes, where are you?
Put a lid on waste in the Social Security-Medicare affairs: Some say this is where the large part of the governmental waste and fraud exists. Don't cut rates for those who worked 40+ years paying into this socialistic program. Since it was forced upon us, at least let us reap what we worked for. But stop the fraud. If a police force specifically for this purpose is installed to root out the billions of fraud and waste cannot do so for far less cost than they save, then we have fraud on top of fraud. We have perfectly healthy people drawing disability from this fund, and others who never paid a dime into it. Clean house! Then, do what George Bush suggested and privatize the program for a break-off generation. Some estimates say this is worth half a trillion dollars!
Stop the Pork: Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW.org) lists on the front page of their "Pig Book" that congress (even though faced with unprecedented spending and deficits) were able to attach pork dollars to the already exorbitant bills, in fiscal 2009, 10,160 projects into the 12 appropriations bills worth $19.6 billion. If a need is legitimate, let it be proposed in a bill by it's lone self. If you would like to get the precise amounts of each congressman's share of the 19.6 billion, Click Here.
PASS COMPREHENSIVE TORT REFORM! No matter how much money you received from law firms for your campaign, stop the absolute nonsense of people who spill hot coffee on their laps from collecting $2.9 million dollars. And limit the amount of the settlement can be for the attorney. Stop deadbeats from suing their MD because they didn't heal as quickly as they felt they should. Numerous people in the U.S. try to earn their livelihood by suing others. Not only should spurious lawsuits claimants be held responsible for the court charges, but a few days in the slammer might cause them to reconsider next time. And lawyers should be required to screen their cases for authenticity.
Now those are only a few instances but look at the possible savings in only them. Some other similar ones are:
Unused Flight Tickets Totaling $100 Million!
Federal employees credit card embezzlement and abuse in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the amount of $5.8 million.
Likewise, the Department of defense finds employees with government credit cards use them for thousands of dollars for sports events, gambling, cruises, exotic dancing and prostitutes.
