There Are Feasible Ways To Get This Nation Back On Top

Most of the things which will bring this nation out of the gutter and back into world leadership are precisely opposite to those of which we are presently doing.
We are faced with deficit spending as far in the future as can be imagined. Some where down the line it must stop. Any moron can understand that. But the how and when to get it stopped brings on the many faceted problems, all of which must be addressed.
One thing we are doing, but not hard and fast enough, time is of the essence and we must triple our efforts in that regard. There is no doubt that our “entitlements” are killing us. But what do you do? Create “death squads” to say when to pull the plug on the elderly? I think not. But there should an intensified effort to educate people before they become senile, to make a reasonable “living will“. I am an elderly person. My wife and I both have living wills which specify that we do not want exotic efforts made to prolong our lives for a few days or even weeks or months if doctors are convinced we will be bedfast or in pain. No person in their right mind should want to take chemotherapy when they are 80 years old, in hopes of prolonging their lives a few more weeks or months and be deathly ill during that time. This is one big thing.
Secondly, the corruption and waste should be STOPPED! The FBI and other agencies are finding many cases of millions of dollars in fraudulent schemes. But there are still many more. Perhaps thousands which are relatively small. But they all need to be stopped. Our oversight must become large enough and drastic enough to put the fear of God in those would-be schemers. Many doctors have learned to exaggerate symptoms and other means of over treating where they can charge more. Many times, the patient or others are also aware of this.
There are millions of people on disability who should not be. There are families of four where 3 are on disability. It seems highly unlikely, that such would occur, when all are less than 60 years old. I know of several young promiscuous teenagers who have more than one illegitimate children. They are given top health care free under Medicaid. This would stop if a few had to give birth at home without a doctor in attendance.
There are methods of cutting back on these entitlements without throwing all the elderly, who have worked a lifetime paying into them, under the bus. There are ways to reform the entitlement plan, such as steering it into a privatization plan as George W. Bush suggested and was booed out of town. It has been shown that private investments produce much higher dividends than Social Security. As much as three times higher. With full attention given to it, there can come a time when it is again paying it’s way.
Another extreme factor. Our continued dependence upon foreign oil. This is a massive waste, and it doesn’t matter how you cut it, it is going to continue to be so throughout eternity if we continue to keep our Oil Companies chained up. Every one in the world is free to drill for oil except the United States of America. Even though we have ample resources for drilling and the best technology in the world. Yet we have to pay outrageous prices for foreign oil and are simply helpless to do anything about it. It has been shown time and time again that alternate sources of energy are far too expensive and lacking in technology at this time. We can keep investigating those sources, but in the meantime, let’s get things back in shape with what we are capable of doing.
Our jobs are overseas. Only a few items can be purchased here anymore that are made here. Whoever got the free trade going in the beginning, should now be hanged if he is still alive. Once it got underway there is no easy way out. When once we were free to put tariffs on imported goods to bring them into line with our own economic necessities. Once that was stopped, we were at the mercy of those countries whose labor is paid as little as 5% of our average wage. Who can compete with that?
But there still is a way. This will certainly rile those who detest big business and wish to punish them. But their thinking is only fractional. They cannot see beyond the end of their eyelashes. BIG BUSINESS! They cry and moan about catering to big business. What they fail to comprehend is that those big businesses are the ones who furnish us JOBS! And reasonably priced goods. Yes, that is correct. If the large wealthy companies are loosed from their chains, they can build factories filled with the latest technology, robotics, and other ingenious methods that can produce products competitively with foreign products. And although the extra technological equipment may reduce the number of workers once needed, at least it will employ some! Some of which are now performed by foreigners overseas.
Finally, although not everything is yet covered, waste in government...I mean big time. There are watchdog agencies which have tracked down millions upon top of millions of pure willful waste. Those things need to be addressed, hard and fast. For instance the newly elected Governor of Alabama, Robert Bentley, was amazed to find the state facing a massive deficit for the next fiscal year. Here is a quote from his state of the State message given last week:
“We have eliminated a total of 217 line items from the General Fund, including 185 earmarks and 32 entities such as commissions and boards. Many are worthwhile. Many are not. But in this day and time taxpayers cannot afford to continue to support nonessential programs.”
