What has to be done about Radical Islamists in the United States

Here in the U.S., authorities face a daunting dilemma. With our constitutional freedom of religion, ones beliefs are his privilege. There are numerous good and non-violent people in the Islamic religion. Yet, we are infested with radicals also of that religion. When any of our officials speak out about “radical Islam”, they receive criticism and ridicule from moderate Muslims as well as the politically extreme left.

Benard Lewis, a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA), is a British-American historian, scholar in Oriental studies, and political commentator. He is the Cleveland E. Dodge Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. He specializes in the history of Islam and the interaction between Islam and the West, makes this excellent remark describing the dilemma mentioned in our title:

"Most Muslims are not fundamentalists, and most fundamentalists are not terrorists, but most present-day terrorists are Muslims and proudly identify themselves as such. Understandably, Muslims complain when the media speak of terrorist movements and actions as 'Islamic' and ask why the media do not similarly identify Irish and Basque terrorists and terrorism as 'Christian.' The answer is simple and obvious -- they do not describe themselves as such. The Muslim complaint is understandable, but it should be addressed to those who make the news, not to those who report it."   (The Crisis of Islam-Bernard Lewis-Random House)

A good example of this is, a preponderance of Hispanics south of our border, are Roman Catholic Christians. The vast majority of our “Drug runners and distributors along our southern border are Hispanics from those countries. They are not considered as a reflection on the Catholic Church, and their activities are not in any way sanctioned by the teachings of that church or by the teachings of Christianity.

When the day arrives that the Islamic community will turn on these radicals and report every action they know of, to the authorities, the radicals can be eliminated from our society. Also, when the Islamic Imams stop teaching hatred towards others in their mosques and elsewhere, the radicalism can be stopped.

Even the Muslim Brotherhood, who profess that they are opposed to violence and say they obey the law of whichever country they are in (and apparently they are truthful in this), will not be found to report radicalism by other Muslims. The Brotherhood states that their intent is to convert the world to Islam through peaceful means. I can certainly accept that approach. I have the same desire to convert the world to true Christianity. But I accept the obvious, it will never happen.

What must be understood is the fact that calling oneself a Christian does not make one a Christian. You do not inherit the name Christian from your family. Followers of Islam should come to realize, that IF Islam is a religion of peace and love, then they should prove that by denouncing vigorously those who do take it upon themselves to kill and maim others who do not believe as they do.

When I first heard of the Muslim Brotherhood, like many others, I presume, I felt they were probably at least somewhat radical in their activities. Thus far, I have learned of nothing to substantiate that. And therefore, until I do learn of civil disobedience, I commend them for their zeal.
My biggest concern concerning Islam, is of the openly radicalism of some whose intent is to kill all non-Muslims they can. Plus even more so, those who use subterfuge towards the same end.

A hearing was held by the House Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Peter King, U.S. Representative from New York’s third district, entitled "The Extent of Radicalization in the American Muslim Community and that Community's Response,"

The Muslim Community has now become highly indignant over the holding of that hearing. And numerous liberal politicians have chimed in with the same ridicule expected of them. What in the world, do they expect? FBI records show where radical Islamists have been captured who were attempting to blow up subways, high-traffic public buildings and other extremely dangerous things.

If they had not been captured, and had succeeded in carrying out their high-casualty plans, how many of those same critics, would not have jumped up and down and blamed those who ha not held the hearing.

I can understand the feelings of the Muslims, but in order for them to eliminate these things is to pitch in and help bring the radicals to justice where we can all live peaceably together. Some moderate Muslims have written their articles pointing out that it is not the Muslims job to root out the radicals, but rather it is the responsibility of the FBI and Homeland Security.

This is a pathetic response. No one expects them to spend their time investigating for the authorities. All that is needed is for those who become aware of someone’s radical activity, to notify the authorities. To fail to do that only shows the extreme bias against America and a reluctance to put the finger on criminals simply because they profess to be of the same religion.
