Building the Logical, Evidential Case for Life After Death

When no empirical evidence exists for a theory or hypothesis, the solution can never be conclusively resolved. But when such does exist the theory ceases to be a theory but is rather, a proven fact. There are numerous theories which have no empirical evidence, some of which will never be totally resolved by man.
Life after death, or the immortality of the human soul (mind, spirit, mentality) is one of the things for which there is no empirical proof. However, there are numerous evidences and reasons to accept this hope which is held by the vast majority of people, not just those of us who accept the teaching of the Holy Bible.
Since there are no empirical proofs that life does, or does not, exist after the body is dead, then we need to have some means of assurance before we jump to one conclusion or the other. We will briefly look at a few of those reasons.
(1) There are no compelling reasons, or empirical evidence, not to believe that man’s soul lives on without the body. It is foolish and futile to argue that, simply because you have seen no one after death who was alive. First, the soul is not made from physical materials, it has no means of being viewed by human eyes, nor to create sounds which can be heard by human ears. Life as a spirit is in a totally different realm than that of humanity.
(2) Because there is no empirical evidence for the immortality of the soul, it cannot be proven. But, lack of empirical evidence, is not to say there is no evidence whatsoever. There are evidences enough to overcome the fact that there are no evidences that it does not continue to exist. One factor to consider is in many cases, an illness or accident can render a human body totally paralyzed, yet the intellect remains active. So long as the nervous system is still functioning, the mentality is still capable of utilizing the electrical currents within the brain. If the lack of blood or oxygen allows the brain to die, then the soul completely leaves the body.
(3) Another indication that the mental portion of humans is not totally dependent upon the body is dreams. Some dreams are apparently the remembrance of certain occasions or visions one has experienced before. Yet so many are completely foreign to one’s previous experiences, such as seeing plainly people and places, buildings, etc., which have never before been seen .Something formulates those images in the mind.
(4) Extra-sensory perception. Some may deny that there is such, but many cases have been shown to be real and impossible to have been shammed or pre-arranged. Certain dreams have been prophetic in such detail that it eliminates coincidence.
(5) It is an apparent normality to accept. Almost every historical culture in our histories have believed in some type of life after death. Is this an inherent part of man, or is it simply from his desire to hope for immortality? Or is it factor instilled of God?
(6) And here is a thought to consider. Our natural laws concerning those material things around us, show that matter and energy cannot be destroyed, only altered in some way. Is life, a total mystery in itself, the only thing that can be destroyed...ended?
(7) Finally, although we have not begun to exhaust the evidences which exist, the one that true Christians accept as complete evidence is the fact that it is taught in the inerrant scriptures. Jesus himself taught it without reservation. So, in my view, along with many millions more, that puts the lid on the jar.
