Harry Reid’s Being Enamored With Jon Huntsman Destroys His Bid

by Joel Hendon(170) Red Star

An endorsement, of any level, from the likes of Harry Reid, is enough to cause any effort to be futile for a man to run on the Republican ticket. Jon Huntsman may appreciate the complement buy if he had any chance in to be elected the Republican presidential nominee, he has none now. It is unlikely that he would have been able to garner even a few votes from the more liberal leaning members of the party to begin with. Reid no doubt knew that his remarks would reduce any chance that Huntsman might have had. If so, his friendship is phony .

The only low mentality, yet slightly sensible, reason he could have had was that he was naïve enough to think that he might help him win and if so, make the next president as inefficient as the Democrat which is presently serving.

It is really amazing that Huntsman is actually running when he is undoubtedly aware of the mood of the voters. There is currently no room in the GOP/Tea Party following for any leaning towards liberalism whatsoever. He simply does not fit their view of a presidential prospect.

I invariably suspect some type of collusion or plot in cases like this. Where someone feels they can split moderate voters away, allowing some extremist to win the primary with little chance of winning the presidential race. Sometimes that works. I think some of this type hanky-panky took place in the 2008 presidential election. McCain should never have been chosen as the Republican nominee. Most of the ultra conservatives either boycotted the election, voted a third party ticket or, at best, begrudgingly voted for McCain.

Huntsman is actually good, and a strong ally in some conservative thought, but strikes a nerve in others. Perhaps his two most negative positions, or perceived positions, is (1) the fact that he has been serving as Ambassador to China, for the liberal Obama regime. Any connection with Obamaville is likely to cost him votes.

(2) One of the most damaging stands for Huntsman is that he favors civil unions and other rights for homosexuals.

In the days after he was nominated as U.S. ambassador to China, congratulations poured in, including one from Bob Page, a North Carolina businessman. "I write to thank you for your leadership and outspoken support of civil legal recognition for same-sex couples," wrote Page, who is raising twin sons he and his partner adopted from Vietnam. "I have been deeply offended by attempts to scapegoat gays and lesbians in an effort to turn out voters," Page wrote. "I appreciate more than I can say your courageous recognition that this serves no productive purpose."

The ambassador nominee jotted a handwritten note to Page, thanking him for his kind support. "Let's hope that someday--all people are seen as equal under the laws of our land. With very best wishes--Jon."

Huntsman drew national attention in 2009 with his public support for civil unions and other rights for same-sex couples--a sharp break from the Republican orthodoxy, especially in conservative Utah. (Robert Gehrke: The Salt Lake Tribune May 11, 2011)

Whether or not Huntsman takes the stand today that he took in 2003 concerning alternative energy sources, is not known, but here is how he stood at that time:

We need to lead the nation in finding alternative sources for energy and efficiency.

(1) Regulation stance that will consider Utah ‘s natural advantages in both renewable and non- renew able technologies.

(2) I will promote an energy conservation plan that encourages smarter use among providers and consumers.

(3) I will focus the legislature-dedicated monies for energy research with a future oriented view to insure that there use is in accordance with a healthy Utah (Press release: “Opposes Nuclear Waste” Nov 17, 2003)

He holds a strong conservative stance on gun rights and education. His stand on health care seems a bit shaky, without direct information concerning ObamaCare, etc. Below are a few examples. Notice the first one on the list. He was for it before he was against it. Then compare that with the last item.

(1) Supported individual mandate in 2007; opposes it now. (Jun 2011) (2) Supports market-based, consumer empowering legislation. (Jun 2011) (3) Truly affordable insurance: pathway to coverage for everyone. (Jan 2009) (4) No denial of coverage because of minor ailments. (Jan 2008) (5) We mandate insurance for cars, but not children's health. (Jan 2007 ) (Ontheissuses.org)

Although highly talented and experienced, and even though he might make a good president, his stands on homosexual special rights, health care, and energy, plus his fraternization with the liberals should disqualify him from the Republican ticket.

Although the above is plenty to cause this man to fail in qualifying for the GOP nomination, his stand on immigration is completely unacceptable. I refer anyone to read an article by Michelle Malkin:

Both Huntsman and Reid are Mormons, right? I can never figure out how Reid shows up every Sunday. Oh well. You are right. His endorsement is the kiss of death. Maybe that's what he was intending, or maybe he really thinks that he is doing a favor for his fellow Mormon. I can't figure it out. I can't reach all the nuances and make sense. Good article.

Thank you Christopher, for you comment. Neither can I figure out their reasoning on a lot of things.
